Our History

The story of The Clarksburg Children’s House (TCCH) begins in 2005, when Ms. Jen Brazier and Ms. Kyra Schlosser met in Ms. Carla’s Kindermusik class. As their children got closer to school age, they both felt there was a need for a preschool that truly supported the unique needs of each child. That shared vision led to the creation of TCCH.

In 2007, we officially opened our doors, and by 2008, we were proud to be recognized as a Kindergarten by the state of West Virginia. Our growth continued, and in 2015, we became a 501(c)(3) non-profit, a major milestone in our journey.

In 2017, we were excited to open our Toddler Room, expanding our offerings to even younger children. A few years later, in 2019, Ms. Kelsey Miller took over the leadership of our Primary Program, while Ms. Jen introduced our Lower Elementary program for children in grades 1–3. At the same time, Ms. Kyra became the full-time Head of School until her retirement in early 2021.

In the summer of 2021, we made a big move to our new home at 418 Mayo Street, right in the heart of the Glen Elk neighborhood. This new space allowed us to create outdoor areas where children could connect with nature and explore the world around them.

Later that year, Ms. Dawn Woodburn returned to TCCH after a short break, stepping into the role of Administrative Director and Head of School. Today, we continue to grow and evolve, all while staying true to our founding mission of providing an education that nurtures each child’s love of learning.
